Puberty
Puberty. We’ve all gone through it. How embarrassing! Especially when someone points out the changes. In this panel Sally is going through those embarrassing changes, as her proud father, Vert, points out the obvious: “Well lookey there! Our little Sally is developing her Rissers!” Verta, her mother, is filled with joy as she dabs a tear — her little spine is becoming a woman.
Explanation: “Risser Sign” is a calcification line along the pelvis that is seen on x-ray. Radiologists use this sign to tell when the spine is skeletally mature.
